Using Fax to Email services to stay in touch
Although the cabin is equiped with high-speed internet access and a phone, most people are not inclined to lug a fax machine up to the mountains for the weekend. Check out fax to email programs! New technology makes it simple to receive faxes from the cabin or anywhere you have internet access.
I found a service called CallWave Fax to Email that allows me to receive incomming faxes at the cabin. The faxes get automatically routed to my email inbox. Initially, I signed up for their free 30 day trial but have since subscribed to the service for about $7/mo. There are several others available but this was the easiest to setup and the interface was organized and simple to understand.
Here's the link to the free trial:

I would suggest doing the free trial before leaving on your trip, get the interface setup and then cancel it if you don't think you will use it.
Long Distance
We don't have long distance on the phone so bring a calling card. You can call toll-free numbers but nothing else outside of the 928 area code. I am looking into Skype or some other voice over IP technology. However, I have not been able to find a service provider for VoIP in the area.
Greer is the place to be. It's quiet, relaxing and not crowded like some other White Mountain destinations. Summertime temperatures barley breach the 70's and are usually well below 30 degrees cooler than Phoenix. If it's 110 in the Valley, Payson is probably 85-90, Show Low is likely 80, and Greer, a refreshing 70 degrees. Sitting around the camp fire in the evening you will hardly believe that you're enjoying hot cocoa in 50 degree weather while Phoenix temperatures resist falling below triple digits.
