Greer is a summer and winter outdoor recreational center in the heart of the White Mountains in
eastern Arizona. Summer is the height of the tourist season, but winter sporting activities now
draw increasing numbers of enthusiasts. Greer is fast becoming a year-round destination point as
having four seasons from which to choose outdoor recreational activities. The Willard Lee family
arrived in Greer in 1879 and named it Lee Valley. In 1898, when a post office was established,
the name was changed to Greer in honor of a leading citizen, Americus Vespucius Greer. The distance
to Phoenix is 225 miles and the distance to Tucson is 240 miles.

Greer is the place to be. It's quiet, relaxing and not crowded like some other White Mountain destinations. Summertime temperatures barley breach the 70's and are usually well below 30 degrees cooler than Phoenix. If it's 110 in the Valley, Payson is probably 85-90, Show Low is likely 80, and Greer, a refreshing 70 degrees. Sitting around the camp fire in the evening you will hardly believe that you're enjoying hot cocoa in 50 degree weather while Phoenix temperatures resist falling below triple digits.
